-Perfoliation rimose, triangular in section.
-(Leaf blade about 20-50x longer than wide), leaf glabrous.
-Does not form ligules, auricles absent.
-Height: 20-150 cm. Plant glabrous.
-Stem triangular in section. Rhizomes creeping, dense, 3-10 mm in diameter, not swollen as with tubers.
-Leaves linear carinate.
-Inflorescence : umbel surrounded at base by large leaves very much longer than inflorescence, spikelets multiflorous 4-25 mm, fused in a raceme, scaly, floral distichous, multiveined, brown-reddish; 3 stamens, 3 stigmata.
-Fruit : achenes with 3 sides.
-Especially rare in the annually cultivated fields of Portugal.
