-Cotyledons oblong, with rounded tip, more or less petiolate.
-Leaves entire, elliptical, ovate.
-Height : 30-120 cm. Plant glabrous.
-Stem erect, fexose, branched at summit, with more or less patulous branches.
-Basal leaves in rosette, leaf lamina pointed at tip oblong or frequently inverted heart-shaped at base, constricted on the sides. Cauline leaves very small, lamina lanceolate, petiolate. Ochrea present.
-Flowers greenish, whorled pauciflorous, all isolated in long slack and leafed raceme. Pedicels equal the fruit -bearing valves.
-Fruit with ovate-oblong fruit bearing valves, provided with large entire granule.
-Plant diuretic and lenitive.
- Biological type : Perennial with very swollen roots at the base of stem.
Mistake with: Rumex crispus , Rumex pulcher (at vegetative stage).
