- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, sessile.

- Leaves pinnately divided.


Adult plant snapshot Adult plant:

- Height: 5-40 cm.

- Stem stout, thick.

- Leaves lower in rosette. Later 2-3-pinnate, alternate, with lanceolate -linear segments, glabrous and very closed, dark-green. Upper leaves divided, each segment divided in narrow strips. Strongly aromatic.

- Flowers yellow-greenish in short-peduncled heads, solitary or in small terminal clusters. Ray -florets absent. Involucre semi-spherical with several rows of ovate, lengthened and light-bordered bracts. Receptacle spherical, hollow.

- Fruit light-brown. Pappus in short membranous ring.

- Plant used as decoction for greying hair; as infusion against spasms, disorders of the stomach, and for external use as an antiseptic and vulnerary.

- Populations exist which are resistant to triazines in Great Britain.

- Risk of confusion with species of Anacyclus , Anthemis and Chamaemelum , and with Matricaria perforata" Mérat and Matricaria recutita L.

- Biological type: annual.
