- Leaves lower with 2 pairs of lanceolate -linear leaflets, 10-15 mm x 2-3 mm, rounded tip. Further leaves with 5-10 pairs of leaflets. Robust and branched tendrils ; stipules small, entire -margined.
- Flowers crimson or purple-blue, 12-20 mm, whitish wings, 3 to 30 in long-peduncled raceme usually longer than the subtending leaf.
- Fruit : pod flat, glabrous, 20-40 x 8-10 mm, slightly reticulate, brown.
- Plant cultivated as fodder.
- Biological type: annual.
