- Cotyledons obscure (hypogeal germination).
- Leaves pinnately divided.
- Height: 20-50 cm. Plant slender.
- Leaves with 2-5 pairs of leaflets acute apex, terminal simple or branched tendril (true first leaves have a single pair of leaflets ovate, elongate and rounded tip).
- Flowers mauve purple-striped, 6-8 mm long, solitary or 1-2 on slender peduncles as long as the leaf ; style somewhat flattened from front to back, hairy above.
- Fruit : pod flat and glabrous, 4-5-seeded, rounded tip, tawny when ripe, 10-15 x 3-4 mm.
