-Cotyledons rounded and club shaped.
-Leaves lanceolate, dentate, with large soft grooves and long spines.
Height : 15-90 cm. Plant erect, robust, sometimes glabrous.
-Stem solitary, branched with the margin of the leaves protracted with gaps along the length of the stem.
-Leaves : shortened petiole in basal leaves, soft, pinnatifid, and slightly prickly, cauline leaves, sessile, oblong -lanceolate or ovate with margin regularly dentate, more or less long, triangular, pointed, prickly with white margin.
-Flowers : terminal capitulum, yellow with short peduncle within leaf axils, exceeded by upper prickly leaves.
-Fruit obovoid, flat without pappus.
