- Cotyledons lengthened, spoon-like.

- Leaves all cauline, alternate, with 3 cordate leaflets. Leaflets with a short petiole, dull-green often becoming purple, very hairy. Petioles often red-tinged. Stipules lanceolate, narrow, membranous, usually more or less red, with much-ciliate margins.
- Flowers yellow, 2-6 in cymes on axillary and long peduncles. Sepals lanceolate adnate to the fruit.
- Fruit: cylindric capsule, oblong, 12-15 mm, pubescent. Seeds 1-1.2 mm, brown, elliptic, broad, transversally wrinkled.

- Risk of confusion with Oxalis fontana Bunge and at seedling stage with all species of Trifolium .
