- Stem spreading or erect.

- Leaves: 11-25 leaflets ovate or ovate-elongate, rounded tip.

- Flowers white veined with yellow, with a red-striped standard, 3-8 terminal on short flowering peduncles. Each head of flowers is subtended by a leaf -like bract, somewhat exceeding the flowers.

- Fruits blackish when ripe, reticulate -veined, pubescent, 4-7- transversal joints, tapered into a nearly straight beak shorter than the last joint of the fruit.

- Plant very melliferous.

- Risk of confusion with Ornithopus compressus L.
