- Cotyledons elliptic or ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves pinnately foliate.
- Height: 20-50 cm. Plant smooth-haired.
- Leaves: 13-31 leaflets often not very acute at the tip. Stipules very small, ovate-acute, absent at the base of the upper leaves.
- Flowers yellow, small, 5-6 mm long; 3-5 in simple pseudo-umbel, subtended by a 7-9-scaled leaf -like bract longer than the flowers.
- Fruits : curved especially in the upper part and tapered into a hooked beak. Blackish when ripe, strongly reticulate with prominent veins. Pod with 5-8-joints, not constricted, but with an equal breadth along the fruit.
- Risk of confusion with Ornithopus perpusillus L.
