- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.

- First leaf rounded, obtuse at the base; the later 3-foliolate.

- Height: 20-70 cm.

- Stem angular, nearly hairless.

- Leaves with acute-striped stipules. Leaflets toothed in the upper part.

- Flowers yellow solitary or in 2-3 on a flowering branch shorter than the leaf and ending in a slender flowerless segment. Standard longer than the keel and keel longer than the wings.

- Fruit : pod more or less glabrous, membranous, in a helix of 2-6 turns not coiled, biconvex, 9-18 mm in diameter. Fruit indehiscent.

- Plant protected in Limousin (decree 01/09/89).[France].

- Risk of confusion with glabrescent species of Medicago ( Medicago polymorpha L.).
