- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- First leaf rounded, obtuse at the base; the later 3-foliolate.
- Height: 15-50 cm.
- Stem prostrate or ascending, angular, hairless or more rarely with some short hairs.
- Leaves similar to those of trefoil, with a long and slender stalk, simple, terete. Leaflets toothed about in the upper part, with sometimes a brown or blackish blotch at the base. Stipules acute-laciniate.
- Flowers yellow solitary or usually 2-8 on flowering branches awnless at the top, about equalling the leaf. Standard longer than the keel.
- Fruit : pod disk-shaped, in a helix of 1.5-3.5 turns, 4-6 mm in diameter. Sides nearly flat, reticulate, with an outer border thin and with a furrow broken with spines on each side.
