- Leaves at first 3-foliolate, then pinnate.

- Height: 10-50 cm.

- Stem: lengthened at once, ascending when flowering, hispid.

- Leaves with 3 terminal leaflets and 2 as stipules.

- Flowers yellow at first, then orange-coloured, turning green when they dry, 2-4 in heads. Calyx -teeth subequal, longitudinally ciliate, markedly longer than the tube.

- Fruit : pod ripe: 8 to 15 mm x 2 mm.

- Rare in crops.

- Risk of confusion with: Lotus angustissimus L.

- Biological type: annual.
