- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, clavated tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves entire, ovate or deltoid, irregularly dentate.
- Height: 30-70 cm. Plant with a thick and persistent stock.
- Stem erect, more or less branched, glaucous.
- Leaves all in rosette, hispid, oblong, tapered at the base, pinnatifid.
- Florets yellow, in head. Involucre with membranous-margined bracts, hairless, bristly on the midrib. Florets lengthening into a 5-toothed ligule.
- Fruit : orange achenes, scale -like, topped with a feathery hairs pappus and narrowed in a long beak. - Plant eaten when young. In autumn appearence of a new rosette.
