- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves entire, lanceolate, more or less dentate.
- Height: 5-20 cm. Plant stiffly hairy.
- Stem prostrate and very branched.
- Leaves basal short-stalked, later alternate. Leaves hispid, lanceolate, sessile, stiffly hairy (like the stems) with ovate stipules.
- Flowers yellow-greenish not very distinct, obscurely peduncled, in axillary heads. Calyx hairy, each sepal ending in a longer bristle.
- Fruit : seeds circa 0.4 mm, black, shining, ovate, flattened, with tapered margins.
- Plant diuretic, emollient, antihernial, used in the past against gravel.
- Rare in crops.
- Risk of confusion with Herniaria glabra L. (differentiated by the glabrous calyx and the glabrous or ciliate leaves).
