- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.
- Leaf blade circa 10 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule surrounded with a ring of hairs, auricles absent, basal tufts of hairs on each side of the leaf blade.
- Height: 10-50 cm.
- Stem slender, fascicled, spreading or geniculate -ascending.
- Leaves lower narrow with a denticulate margin. Leaves long, not broad with yellowish glands, scabrous, with margins markedly ciliate-scabrous; long and dense hairy sheaths mostly on borders.
- Inflorescence : very spreading but few-branched. Panicle loose with slender long-naked peduncles. Spikelets less than 2.5 mm broad near the base. Glands on pedicels and on the keel of glumes and lemmas.
- Fruits : Naked caryopsis after shedding. Red-brown.
- Risk of confusion with Eragrostis cilianensis (All.) F.T. Hubbard and at seedling stage with the other species of Eragrostis .
