- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.
- Leaf blade circa 10 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule surrounded with a ring of hairs, auricles absent, basal tufts of hairs on each side of the leaf blade.
- Height: 10-50 cm.
- Stem more or less spreading.
- Leaves lower glabrous with a serrate border.
- Inflorescence : very simple panicle, with solitary or someti-mes in pairs branches and slightly divided. Spikelets 2-3 mm, terminal on short pedicels, sometimes with 40 florets but usually with 15 to 30 florets densely closed. Glands on pedicels and on the keel of glumes and lemmas. Principal branches with a hairy axil.
- Fruits : subglobose. Naked caryopsis after shedding.
- Strong scent when fresh.
- Risk of confusion with Eragrostis minor Host. and at seedling stage with the other species of Eragrostis .
