Seedling:

- Perfoliation rimose, triangular in section, (Leaf 20-50 times longer than wide), leaves glabrous.

- Does not form ligules, auricles absent.

- Height : 20-100 cm. Plant glabrous.

- Stem triangular in section.

- Leaves linear (4 x 10 mm wide) carinate.

- Inflorescence : umbel surrounded by 5-11 leaves; spikelets multiflorous, 6-13 mm fused heads, scaly floral, distichous, triveinate, greenish; 1 stamen and 3 stigmata.

- Fruits : achenes with 3 sides.

- Risk of confusion with : Cyperus difformis at seedling stage.

- Biological type : annual ; perennial with rhizomes.
