- Cotyledons : elongate, spoonlike.
- Leaves entire, deeply notched.
- Height: 10-80cm.
- Stems branched like an umbel or like a spike in the upper part, glabrous or short-hairy.
- Basal leaves green, glabrous, pubescent on nerves. Leaves oblong, dentate, pinnatifid.
- Flowers bright-yellow and reddish beneath ( for the central and outer) in head, yellow stigma. Involucre pubescent. Pedicels with smooth hairs more or less glandular. Involucral bracts on 2 rows, outer ones shorter and more or less glandular.
- Fruits : achenes with a white silky pappus as long as the involucre. Seeds beakless, 2 mm long, 10-ribbed, light-brown.
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with Cichorium intybus and the other species of Crepis .
