- Cotyledons elliptical to ovate with rounded tip, more or less petiolate.
- Entire leaves, deeply indented.
- Height: 10-100 cm. Pubescent rough.
- Stem erect straight, narrow winged, rough at surface, with flat erect branches.
- Lower leaves in rosette ; green-dark leaves, dentate cutting, with black mucron (woolly hairs), very tufted on young leaves. Cauline entire leaves.
- Yellow glandulous flowers in solitary or aggregate capitulum. Spiny ovoid involucre, yellow-green without visible veins, bracts.
- Fruits greyish small achenes, covered by small hairs (2-3 mm) White or fawn-coloured pappus of same length as fruits.
- Bitter plant, digestive, diuretic. Species rare in crops.
