- Cotyledons linear ( 10 times longer than broad).
- Leaves divided, pinnate.
- Height 20-50 cm.
- Stem erect, sparcely branched,striate.
- Leaves glabrous, the lower ones trilobate or trifoliate, each lobe with 2 or 3 teeth, the upper leaves palmate with 3 or 5 divisions.
- Flowers white in umbels with 5 to 8 radii 2.5 cm long. Outer flowers larger than the inner ones. Style 3 mm long and 6 mm broad. Carypophore persistent on the inflorescence after shedding.
- Declining species, rare in crops. Perceptible odour when crushed.
- Risk of confusion with Aethusa cynapium L., Daucus carota L.
