Key Laboratory of Agromicrobiology (Ministry of Agriculture, China)

HAU is leader of a workpackage on "Application of Mycorrhiza Technology to Staple Food Crop Production in Small-Scale Farming", and will select efficient arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) from soils in the Hubei Province in central China for the chinese stock centre. Quality controlled inoculum of selected AMF from north, central and south China will be produced by the Kaifa Company, an SME in Wuchang. Maize will be inoculated in small scale farm field trials in the Hubei Province. HAU will also develop molecular probes, in collaboration with LPA-INRA, using random genomic cloning in order to monitor the field-inoculated AMF. The cost-effectiveness of AMF technology for yield gains for small chinese farms will be estimated.
