- Stem relatively thick and rough.

- Leaves cut, dentate or pinnatifid, hairy on both sides.

- Flowers pale-lilac, in dense globose heads.

- Fruits 2 mm, short-cone-shaped, with 3 blunt angles, roughly hairy, tomentose, with an ovoid navel on the front, crowned by the very spreading calyx of which teeth are awned and sometimes bifid.

- Rare in crops.

- Biological type: annual.

- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with all the other species of Valerianella .
