- Cotyledons obscure (hypogeal germination).
- Leaves pinnately divided.
- Height: 20-60 cm. Plant slender, glabrescent.
- Stem furrowed, climbing, hairy, tufted.
- Leaves with 5-8 pairs of leaflets ended with a terminal branched tendril. Later leaflets lanceolate, truncate, with a spiny point at the apex of the midvein. Stipules black-blotched.
- Flowers yellow with a standard often yellow or pink, solitary or 2-3 on very short peduncles ; calyx with unequal teeth, the lower longer than the calyx-tube.
- Fruit : pod relatively flat, 25-30 x 8-9 mm, black-brown, with relatively long hairs, tuberculate at base.
