- Height: 20-100 cm. Plant dark-green, hispid.

- Stem robust, erect, 4-angled.

- Leaves opposite dark-green, long-stalked, dentate, shining above, simple, large, cordate at base and acute at apex. Margin coarsely dentate. Stipules linear, lanceolate. Stinging erect hairs.

- Flowers greenish unisexual in drooping racemes on separated shoots (plant dioecious ); racemes longer than the peduncle. Pubescent perianth.

- Fruits : achenes, flowering raceme drooping when the fruit is ripe.

- Plant with leaves astringent, hemostatic, antianoemia, antidiabetic, healing, deodorant and dyeing; used as food for poultry. Stinging effects due to the silica and formic acid inside hairs.

- Biological type: perennial with stolons.
