- Cotyledons elliptic or ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves entire, ovate or deltoid, irregularly dentate.
- Height: 10-20 cm.
- Stem erect, felted, with ovate, lanceolate, obtuse, appressed and semi-amplexicaul scales.
- Leaves appear after flowers on special stems, all radical, at first often very large, stalked, suborbicular, toothed, green above, white or greyish and felted beneath; later cordate base, long-stalked, densely white-felted beneath.
- Flowers yellow in erect heads terminal on flowering shoots, ray -florets ligulate exceeding the disk-florets.
- Fruits : brown achenes with a silky white pappus circa 3 times longer than the achene.
- Plant used against coughs.
