- Leaf blade 2-5 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.

- Ligule membranous toothed crowned by a ring of hairs, auricles absent.

- Stems prostrate, spreading, branched, very leafy.

- Leaves short, flat, 2-3 mm wide. Leaf blade stiffly hairy on margins; upper leaf sheath swollen, broadened, red-tinged.

- Inflorescence : flowers crimson sometimes green on spike -like panicle, with short branches ; spikelets 2-4 in small groups, lemma with hooked hairs on 5-7 rows.

- Fruits oblong, flattened at base on the inner side.

- Plant psammophilous.

- Biological type: annual.
