- Cotyledons lengthened, spoon-shaped.
- First leaf simple semi-round or reniform, later 3-foliolate.
- Height: 10-40 cm.
- Stem erect, branched, often becoming red.
- Lower leaves 3-foliolate. Cauline leaves lower readily dried, leaflet 3-4 times longer than broad, serrate till the middle, terminal notch; upper leaves sessile ; stipules narrow with a free part awl -like.
- Flowers whitish or pink, very small, in oblong -conical and dense heads (9 to 12 mm long). Calyx very hairy, ciliate-toothed, corolla shorter than the calyx.
- Fruit : pod.
- Seeds mixed with wheat give a pinky bread. Plant melliferous.
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with all the other species of Trifolium and the species of Oxalis .
