Seedling:
- Cotyledons elliptic or ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves entire, elliptic or ovate, regularly dentate.
- Height: 40-100 cm. Plant stiffly-hairy, with a stout stock, fleshy, not tuberous.
- Stem stout, winged, branched.
- Leaves thick, ovate-lanceolate, the lower larger than the middle lengthily decurrent.
- Flowers whitish, pink or purple. Calyx cut nearly to the base, with lanceolate lobes ; corolla circa 15 mm, twice longer than the calyx and with revolute lobes; scales enclosed, lanceolate awl -like; anthers acute, longer than the filament.
- Fruit : 4 achenes smooth and shining.
- Plant ornamental, melliferous, vulnerary, used against dysentery and catarrh. Rare in crops.
