- Cotyledons lengthened, spoon-shaped.
- Leaves entire, ovate or deltoid, irregularly dentate.
- Height: 30-80 cm.
- Stem hollow, erect, few-branched. Plant smooth or slightly glandular above.
- Basal leaves in rosette, erect and oblique, light-green to blue-green. Later leaves oboval, elongate, glabrous, runcinate -pinnatifid or pinnatisect with toothed lobes, narrowed from the base to the tip, the terminal triangular lobe larger than the others. Cauline leaves amplexicaul with 2 acuminate and spreading auricles, the lower with a broad winged stalk.
- Flowers yellow; involucre glabrous, sometimes cottony at base.
- Fruits : achenes brownish, oboval-oblong, strongly rugose, transversely wrinkled. Obscure longitudinal ribs.
- Plant eaten cooked as a green salad, appreciated by cattle, pigs and rabbits. Abundant latex when stem is broken.
