- Height: 30-80 cm. Plant stiffly hairy.
- Stem erect, branched.
- Leaves lower in rosette, pinnatifid ; upper leaves sessile, ovate or oblong, coarsely dentate.
- Flowers yellow; sepals distant of petals and very spreading outward when the flower is blooming. Fruiting pedicels thick, much shorter than the siliqua.
- Fruits : silicule erect-spreading, oblong, embossed, glabrous, rarely appressed or erect; valves 3-5 veined ; conical beak, awl -like, somewhat shorter than the valves; seeds globose, brownish and smooth.
- Plant melliferous of which seeds are oily. Populations exist which are resistant to triazines in Canada.
