Seedling:
- Cotyledons lengthened, spoon-like, truncate apex.
- Leaves entire, lanceolate, more or less denate.
- Height: 50-100 cm. Plant tufted.
- Stem woody, branched in its upper 1/3.
- Leaves glabrous, persistent, lanceolate, linear (3-10 cm), margins crenulate, with thick woolly hairs. Prominent midvein.
- Flowers yellow in head 18-25 mm, the outer developed. Flowering branches ascending, in irregular corymbs. 80-100-flowered head.
- Fruit : feathery achene.
- Plant introduced in the south of France with the woollen industry (circa.1930). Native of South Africa. Rare in crops, but frequency increasing.
