Adult plant:
- Leaves entire, linear, acute apex.
- Height: 10-45 cm. Plant whitish-green.
- Stem erect, leafy, branched, rarely simple, glabrous, with ascending branches, sometimes with spreading lateral branches.
- Leaves very variable in form, usually with leaflets on each side on 2 rows and a terminal leaflet, or sometimes lengthened, narrow and without leaflet.
- Flowers pale-yellow in head. Involucral bracts acute: the outer shorter, short-haired with a horn below the apex.
- Fruit greyish 5-ribbed in the upper part, on a whitish swollen 10-ribbed with 5 more prominent ribs on pedicel. Pappus white-greyish.
- Leaves, stems and roots are eaten as a vegetable. Latex in leaves and roots.
