- Shoot rolled; leaf sheath terete.
- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaves glabrous.
- Ligule membranous toothed, auricles absent.
- Height: 5-30 cm. Plant tufted, glabrous.
- Stem geniculate ascending or erect, stiff, smooth.
- Leaves at first flat, later rolled, hispid.
- Inflorescence : narrow panicle, oblong -lanceolate, somewhat closed, with spikelets from the base to the top of the branches. Spikelets almost spreading in the same plane, erect, shortly pedicelled, linear, oblong, 5-15 persistent flowers, relatively lax, 1-2 mm long; floret-glumes sub-obtuse, with lateral vein slightly marked.
- Fruits : caryopsis 1-seeded, seed thickset, only just 3 times longer than broad; caryopsis with the 2 floret-glumes and the rachilla.
