- Cotyledons very narrow, lengthened (> 10 times longer than broad).
- Leaves pinnately divided.
- Height: 10-40 cm. Plant stiffly hairy, pubescent.
- Stem stiff, striate, with usually spreading branches.
- Leaves ovate in outline, 2-3-pinnate, cut into linear lobes, mucronulate, with rough margins. Indentation and hairiness of leaves are increasing upwards. Petiole channelled and pubescent. Basal sheath present.
- Flowers white in umbels simple or of 2-3 stout rays shorter than the fruit. Involucel of 5 bracts erect or spreading, broad, bi-or tri-fid or pinnate rarely entire.
- Fruit: achene oblong -linear, rough-margined, long-beaked, 4-6 cm long, 4 times longer than the mericarps. Achene more or less dorsally flattened, or sometimes cylindric. Persistent carpophore on the inflorescence after fruit fall.
- Plant expectorant, diuretic and purgative.
- Biological type: annual.
