- Cotyledons elliptic, clavated tip, more or less stalked.

- Leaves entire, elliptic or ovate, entire-margined.

- Height: 30-60 cm. Plant more or less pubescent.

- Leaves all in rosette. Blade broad, rounded, parallel-veined. Petiole leaf -like and ciliate, broadened into a sheath and slightly hairy.

- Flowers very small, in lengthened, dense, globose spikes. Corolla greyish or slightly reddish, in a smooth and hairless tube. Scapes leafless. Bracts ovate and obtuse.

- Fruit : Capsule 2- celled with in each cell 8-16 relatively small and ovoid -glandular seeds.

- Plant used against pain caused by stings. Small seeds are eaten by birds. Leaves and roots are astringent, vulnerary and used against disorders of eyes. Seeds emollient.

- Biological type: perennial.
