- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.
- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf glabrous.
- Ligule membranous, acute or toothed, leaf blade undulate at the base.
- Height: 20-120 cm. Plant tufted.
- Stem spreading then ascending. Abundant tillering with numerous forks arising from nodes.
- Leaves with tendrils, long and narrow (8-11 cm x 04 cm), somewhat rough. Leaf blade with marked veins, hairy, light-green.
- Inflorescence spike -like, narrowed at both ends; usually and partly enclosed in the leaf sheath. Seeds 6-7 in flattened spikelet.
- Frequency increasing in crops. Populations exist which are resistant to triazines in Israel.
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with the other species of Phalaris .
