- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.

- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf glabrous.

- Ligule membranous, acute or toothed, leaf blade undulate at the base.


Adult plant snapshot Adult plant:

- Height: 25-60 cm. Plant tufted.

- Stem slender and branched.

- Leaf upper with a sheath inflated and distant from the base of the inflorescence. Anthocyans in the top of rootlets. Leaf blade 3-5 mm broad, longitudinally tapered and acute.

- Inflorescence: oblong spike -like. Glumes lanceolate, very acute at the apex. Floral glumes silky. Lemma with 2 small basal scales.

- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with the other species of Phalaris .

- Biological type: annual.
