Biological type: Perennial with bulbs
- Plant propagates overall vegetatively (bulbs,bulbils...); establishment from seedling is rare.
- Height: 15-30 cm. Plant without stem, numerous sessile bulbils (3-6 mm) arisen from an underground bulb.
- Leaves with 3 cordate leaflets (2-4 x 2-5 cm). Petiole usually 15-30 cm long.
- Flowers pink to crimson, (15-20 mm), in cyme.
- Plant sterile in Europe; native of tropical countries of South America. Plant with an acidic component giving sorrel salt or potassium oxalate. Rare in crops but frequency increasing.
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with all species of Trifolium and the other species of Oxalis .
- Biological type: perennial with bulbs.
