- Cotyledons absent, hypogeal germination, root -parasite.
- Height: 30-70 cm. Parasite plant devoid of chlorophyll, glandular -hairy.
- Stem stout, yellowish or blueish, slightly swollen at base.
- Leaves scale -like, large, 2-3 cm long.
- Flowers white purple-striped, 20-30 mm, erect-spreading or spreading, in more or less lax spike, with a smell of cloves. Sepals bifid. Filaments included in the corolla -tube, very hairy at base, 2-3 mm. Stigma light-purple.
- Plant parasite on some species of Papilionaceae and sometimes on horticultural plants.
