- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath flattened.

- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf glabrous.

- Ligule membranous, truncate overlapping the sheath.

- Height: 3-12 cm. Plant tufted.

- Stem filiform and erect, leafless on the most part of its length.

- Leaves short, narrow, channelled and nearly filiform. Blade filiform, sheath swollen with 2 terminal lobes on each side of the blade.

- Inflorescence : flowers purple, rarely greenish. Minute spikelets 4-12 in a slender spike. Glumes oblong, obtuse at the apex, hairless, the upper somewhat longer than the lower and nearly 2x longer than the very hairy floral glumes.

- Fruit small and ginger.

- Biological type: annual.
