Biological type: Perennial with rhizomes
- Cotyledons spatulate.
- Leaves entire, deeply notched.
- Height: 30-50 cm.
- Stem 4-angled, erect very branched, sparsely hairy, with aerial and underground shoots.
- Leaves opposite, with reticulate veins strongly prominent beneath, sessile, rounded, 30-45 x 20-40 mm,, cut margin, wrinkled above and downy, sometimes glabrous beneath.
- Flowers whitish, dirty-pink, in cylindrical spike. Bracts ovate, acute apex equalling or exceeding the flower. Calyx short, hairy, campanulate, 5-toothed. Corolla 4-lobed. -Fruit : achene 4-celled, smooth and ovoid.
- Plant used for disorders of stomach and as antispasmodic. An ornamental variety is cultivated. Plant melliferous.
- Rare in crops, but frequency increasing.
- Biological type: perennial with rhizomes.
