- Cotyledons spatulate.
- Leaves entire, deeply notched.
- Height: 10-50 cm.
- Stem 4-angled, prostrate to ascending, slightly downy or glabrous, light-green, with aerial shoots.
- Leaves opposite ovate to rounded, small, 10-30 x 3.5-10 mm, shortly stalked, very obscurely crenate margin. Bracts small.
- Flowers purple, rarely white, small, in cluster. Calyx hairy, 5 unequal-toothed, nearly 2-labiate. Corolla with subequal lobes, slightly embossed on one side.
- Fruit : 4-celled and smooth achenes. Seeds ovate, 0.5 mm, shiny-brown.
- Ornamental plant with a strong aromatic scent. Melliferous.
- Rare in crops. Leaves are used as condiment. Fleas avoid it. Plant tonic, antispasms, with an essential oil.
