- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- First leaf rounded, obtuse at the base; the later 3-foliolate.
- Height: 15-60 cm.
- Stem: angular, decumbent or ascending.
- Leaves : the blade of the leaflets is almost glabrous, at first purple-spotted at the base then blotched in the middle. Leaflets cordate and toothed above, spotted on the upper side with a big black or brownish blotch. Stipules toothed.
- Flowers yellow: 2-5 on flowering branches shorter than the leaves, awned: awn small and thin. Standard longer than keel, and keel longer than the wings.
- Fruit subglobose, hairless, in a spiral 4-7 turns with a 3-grooved outer border. Sides nearly flat, shallowly veined. Indehiscent.
- Plant giving a fodder of good quality.
