- Cotyledons invisible (hypogeal germination).
- Leaves entire, lanceolate, more or less dentate.
- Height: 25-70 cm.
- Stems markedly winged, with a developed principal root.
- Leaf with a flattened stalk inflated as leaf blade, twisted on its base, without leaflets in the middle and lower leaves, but with 1 or several tendrills; 1-4 small leaflets ovate, alternate on the flattened petiole of the upper leaves. Stipules ovate, lanceolate.
- Flowers light-yellow, solitary or in pairs on short flowering branches.
- Fruits : pod hairless, tawny when ripe, reticulate and with 2 flattened stips lengthwise on the back. Pod with 2 wings on the dorsal vein, (40-60 x 10-12 mm). -Plant cultivated in the past as fodder.
