- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.

- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.

- Ligule membranous, acute, auricles absent.


Adult plant snapshot Adult plant:

- Height: 10-50 cm.

- Stem erect or creeping at the base, further ascending. Early and abundant tillage, compensating the small size.

- Leaves glabrescent, flat and acute apex, more or less hairy on the sheath and the blade.

- Inflorescence : florets white and green in lengthened and very dense spike. Short-peduncled spikelets of 3-6 florets with unequal floral glumes. Markedly keeled glumes.

- Fruit : caryopsis glabrous. Subterminal or no awns.

- Rare in crops. Populations exist which are resistant to triazines in Israel.

- Biological type: annual.
