- Cotyledons elongate, spoon-shaped.
- Leaves entire, ovate -deltoid, irregularly dentate.
- Height: 20-120 cm.
- Stem glabrous or slightly hairy below, spike -like branched in its upper half.
- Leaves: lower in rosette. Leaves alternate glabrous or scarcely hairy, the first with a long stalk purplish and many-hairy, toothed blade rhomboidal and sparcely hairy. Later leaves divided with a terminal segment larger than the lateral ones.
- Flowers light-yellow (central and outer), ligulate, 8-15 gathered. Flowers circa 10 mm broad, with a glabrous peduncle. Involucral bracts, green and mostly glabrous, on one row, with thick median vein. Involucre with some basal small scales.
- Fruit : achene with 20 longitudinal furrows, without pappus, crown or upper ridge easily falling when ripe.
- Plant eaten as green salad when young. Plant bitter and refreshing, used against chapping.
