- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.
- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous, truncate, intersected auricles.
- Height: 10-50 cm. Plant tufted, hairy.
- Stem geniculate ascending, leafy near the tip.
- Leaves flat, rough, pilose. Leaf sheath glabrous.
- Inflorescence : one-flowered spikelets ; 3 in a big subglobose spike : one central spikelet hermaphrodite, fertile, sessile and 2 lateral male or sterile short-pediceled spikelets. Lower glumes ending into a very long awn. Floral-glumes with 5 rough apex veins, lanceolate, rounded on the back. The 3 spikelets are falling together.
