- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath terete.
- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous, toothed, hairy, auricles absent.
- Height: 30-70 cm, with small nodes even when very young. Plant tufted, hairy.
- Stems glabrous, hairy nodes.
- Leaves 4-20 cm long, light-green to grey-green, glabrous or shortly hairy. The cut leaf sheath is not swollen and with a dense hairiness (pseudo-common couch grass).
- Inflorescence : erect, narrow, greenish or pink. panicle, spreading during flowering. 2-flowered spikelet : lower floret hermaphrodite and upper male or sterile. Lower glumes 1-veined, upper 3-veined. 2 floral-glumes: palea with a geniculate awn, lemma coriaceous and awnless.
