- Cotyledons very narrow and short (few mm long).
- Leaves entire, linear, acuminate.
- Height: 5-20 cm. Plant pubescent with a slender root.
- Stem blue-green, ascending or erect, usually branched near the base, sometimes short-haired below.
- Leaves sessile, narrowly lanceolate or linear, acute, 10-25 times longer than broad, opposite.
- Flowers pink, small, long-stalked, in lax dichotomous cyme. Sepals free, 2-4 mm long, with a membranous and glabrous margin. Petals twice longer than the sepals, pinky, dark-striped, denticulate.
- Fruit : 4-toothed capsule, teeth 4 times shorter than the capsule, with a short carpophore.
- Presence of saponine in roots and used as drug and detergent. -Rare in crops.
