- Height: 20-80 cm.

- Stem erect very branched, tomentose.

- Leaves green, irregularly white-blotched and slightly hairy above and downy white beneath. Leaves narrow-lanceolate, pinnatifid with lobes lanceolate-acute and bristle -pointed.

- Flowers crimson in relatively large heads. ray -florets large, light-purple. Disk-florets hermaphrodite. Bracts ending in a spine.

- Fruit : achenes subglobose, brown, shining, hairless, flattened, oblong, crowned with an entire prominent ridge. Pappus of lengthy feathery hairs joined at the base. Receptacle with long smooth hairs.

- Plant cultivated as ornamental.

- Biological type: Annual.
